There are phrases that stay with you forever.
And there are stories that begin with fear… but end with life.
This is one of them.
A diagnosis that changed everything
In 2017, I was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that completely changed the course of our lives.
I had to have an operation, during which my left ovary and fallopian tube were removed.
During the consultation, my gynaecologist was clear: my dream of becoming a mother could become very complicated.
That’s when this difficult journey began for my husband and me.
Trying… again and again. We started treatments through the National Health Service.
But the result was always the same: negative. We then decided to look for other options.
And that’s how we came to URE Centro Gutenberg, through a relative who is a doctor in Málaga.
We didn’t hesitate to book an initial consultation. The start of a new chapter.
From the very first moment, the treatment was warm and very human.
We went for a consultation with Dr Sánchez, who was honest and sincere with us: the recommended treatment was in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
And it was time to start. We trusted him from the very beginning.
Fear, frustration… and moving forward It wasn’t an easy time.
There was fear. There was frustration. And often, a constant question:
“Why us?”
But one thing was clear to us: we were going to fight to achieve our dream of becoming parents.
Although we didn’t live in Málaga, we made many trips there.
And every time we arrived at the clinic, there was a phrase on the screen in the waiting room that stayed with us:
“I won’t stop until I hold you in my arms.”
It wasn’t an easy journey.
The first embryo transfer was successful… but ended in a miscarriage.
Then came two more transfers. Both were unsuccessful.
By that point, our mental health was really suffering. We felt we couldn’t go on.
But there was still one chance left. The last chance!
We had two remaining embryos, all grade C, from the same IVF cycle.
We knew the odds weren’t great, but we pinned all our hopes on that transfer. And then it happened.
Ten days later: positive. But it wasn’t one… it was two.
The day everything changed When we went for our scan and heard their heartbeats… it was one of the happiest days of our lives.
Today, those heartbeats have names. They are two beautiful two-year-old boys, two little ‘whirlwinds’ who fill every day with joy.
A message for those on the journey
To all the couples and women who are going through this process, or who may have to go through it one day:
Don’t give up. Fight right to the end.
Because you never know when that moment might come.
And if it doesn’t, know that you’ve given it your all.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.
Because life, sometimes, has surprises in store. It took us four years to succeed.
It wasn’t easy. But it was worth it.
