Single Mothers
There is an ever increasing number of women who are deciding to enter into parenthood without a partner thanks to assisted reproduction techniques.
The Law on Assisted Reproduction in Spain which has been in force since 2006 allows these techniques to be performed on any woman who is at least 18 years of age, has the capacity to act and has given her written and express consent freely and voluntarily. You won’t have any issues registering your new born with the Civil Registry of Spain under your name alone.
The assisted reproduction treatments available to single women are the same as those for women with a male partner: Artificial Insemination, In Vitro Fertilisation and Egg Donation
How do we choose treatment and donor?
Donor sperm will be used in all cases. Donors must pass strict health exams and genetic testing. Selection of the donor is a task that always corresponds to the medical team, who guarantee that the selected donor will be as compatible as possible and will resemble the recipient and her family’s physical and immune characteristics as closely as possible. Additionally, sperm donation is completely anonymous: the donor will not be able to know who receives his samples, and the recipient will not be able to know where/who the samples came from.
