You should be able to explain to the doctor how long you have been having regular intercourse (between 2 and 3 times a week), without contraception.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Have_you_ever_been_pregnant_in_the_past\"><\/span>Have you ever been pregnant in the past?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This might seem like a strange question, but it\u2019s not. Many women find that they are having trouble conceiving when they start trying for a second child. This is what we refer to as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/secondary-infertility-when-a-second-pregnancy-doesnt-come\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">secondary infertility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also possible that you have experienced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/recurrent-pregnancy-loss-what-to-do-when-spontaneous-miscarriage-becomes-a-pattern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one or more miscarriages<\/a>\u00a0if you\u2019ve previously been pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>All of the above is extremely important information that makes up your reproductive medical history.<\/p>\n<p>Try to make note of all the approximate timelines and dates so that you can explain everything to your fertility specialist in an organised manner.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Are_you_up-to-date_with_all_of_your_gynaecological_check-ups\"><\/span>Are you up-to-date with all of your gynaecological check-ups<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s important to have an updated cervical pap smear (once a year), and to rule out issues associated with the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, etc.<\/p>\n<p>These problems are often detected during routine gynaecological check-ups. So even though your\u00a0<strong>initial fertility consultation<\/strong>\u00a0will include a complete gynaecological exam, it\u2019s important to tell your doctor about any issues you are already aware of so that they can confirm them and properly diagnosis your case.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_was_your_last_period\"><\/span>When was your last period<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This question may seem like something every woman should be able to answer fairly easily, but many patients go blank when they\u2019re in their appointment with the doctor and start to question themselves.\u00a0Keep track of your periods, the number of days your complete\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/what-are-the-main-phases-of-the-menstrual-cycle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">menstrual cycle<\/a>\u00a0usually takes and the number of days your period lasts.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Have_you_ever_had_an_illness_or_a_condition_related_to_the_reproductive_system\"><\/span>Have you ever had an illness or a condition related to the reproductive system?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You may already be aware that you have a problem that is preventing you from conceiving.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/endometriosis-and-fertility-everything-you-need-to-know-if-you-want-to-become-a-mother\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pathologies such as endometriosis<\/a>, pelvic inflammatory disease,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/myomas-and-their-implications-on-female-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">uterine fibroids<\/a>\u00a0and ovarian cysts can be detected during routine gynaecological check-ups. These are pathologies that may make it difficult for you to fall pregnant naturally.<\/p>\n<p>If you suspect that you might have one of these problems, tell your doctor so that they can inform you regarding any necessary tests and to rule out specific conditions.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_you_have_a_family_history_of_any_serious_illnesses\"><\/span>Do you have a family history of any serious illnesses?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It is essential that you know whether any of your close family has or has had a serious illness. Your family medical history is extremely important as it can provide us with insight into your reproductive profile.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Have_you_previously_undergone_any_fertility_treatments\"><\/span>Have you previously undergone any fertility treatments?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Maybe you have already undergone some type of fertility treatment such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/in-vitro-fertilisation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in Vitro Fertilisation<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/artificial-insemination-frequently-asked-questions-about-this-assisted-reproduction-treatment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">artificial insemination<\/a>, or maybe you\u2019ve already done the basic fertility tests. If this is the case, we advise you to bring any and all information to the initial consultation with your fertility specialist: analyses, testing, medical reports, etc. This way you will save yourself time and money as you won\u2019t have to unnecessarily repeat tests that have already been completed and are still in date.<\/p>\n<p>At the\u00a0<strong>Centro Gutenberg Reproduction Unit<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/travel-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your initial fertility consultation<\/a>\u00a0with the doctor is cost-free and will last approximately one hour. During this appointment the doctor will review your general medical and reproductive history and also perform a completely gynaecological exam. Occasionally the doctor will also carry out an andrology exam if the patient has a male partner. For this reason we advise couples to come to this first appointment together.<\/p>\n<p>An essential exam we order for all couples is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/how-to-interpret-a-sperm-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">semen analysis, also called a sperm study<\/a>. This test makes is possible to analyse the concentration of spermatozoids, their motility and their morphology in order to detect potential abnormalities. Remember that having a child takes two, so carrying out tests on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/males-do-matter-when-it-comes-to-fertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">male partner is necessary as well.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If the doctor has all the information they need at your initial consultation, then they will be able to directly indicate what treatment is necessary in your case and even provide you with the informed consents for that specific assisted reproduction technique.
