Something we see happen in more than one couple or single mother that come to our fertility clinic in Spain for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Let us set the stage: you have already had one child naturally and now you want to give your little one a younger sibling but\u2026 time goes by and you\u2019re having<strong>\u00a0trouble getting pregnant a second time<\/strong>. This is what is known as secondary infertility.<\/p>\n<p>Though maybe you hadn\u2019t heard of this until now, secondary infertility is something that unexpectedly happens in many couples. But\u2026\u00a0<strong>what\u2019s the cause? What options are there<\/strong>\u00a0when this situation presents itself? Here we\u2019ll discuss the most common ones.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Age_of_the_female\"><\/span>Age of the female<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most frequent causes in cases of secondary infertility is age. As we\u2019ve mentioned many time, trying to get pregnant\u00a0<strong>at the age of 30 is not the same as at 37<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/preservation-female-fertility-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Female fertility drastically declines starting at the age of 35<\/a>. According to recent data, the majority of Spanish women try to get pregnant with their first child after the age of\u00a030, the average being 31.2 years of age. Thus, it is almost inevitable that women will try to get pregnant with their second child\u00a0<strong>after the age of 35\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Problems_following_a_previous_pregnancy\"><\/span>Problems following a previous pregnancy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Occasionally there are certain\u00a0<strong>complications that can go undetected<\/strong>\u00a0following a completely normal pregnancy and delivery.<\/p>\n<p>We are referring to\u00a0<strong>infections, oftentimes asymptomatic<\/strong>, that can end up causing abnormalities in the fallopian tubes and endometrium and, as a consequence, issues that lead to secondary infertility.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Secondary_injuries\"><\/span>Secondary injuries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>On occasion, certain injuries resulting from a C-section, such as\u00a0<strong>problems with the uterine scar<\/strong>, may make embryo implantation difficult. This issue may be made evident years later when the female is struggling to conceive a second child.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Change_in_habits\"><\/span>Change in habits<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After having your first child it is possible that your habits aren\u2019t the same as before. Poor diet, weight gain or loss, fewer hours of sleep, stress\u2026 All of\u00a0<strong>these changes could be negatively impacting<\/strong>\u00a0your fertility and could lead to secondary infertility.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_reasons\"><\/span>Other reasons<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although we\u2019ve gone over the most common ones, the explanations above are not the only ones. There are other reasons which sometimes cause patients to struggle when conceiving a second child. For example,\u00a0<strong>hormone changes, ovulation problems and variations in sperm quality\u00a0<\/strong>that were not present before may be issues now.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Treatment_for_secondary_infertility\"><\/span>Treatment for secondary infertility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ve discussed what secondary infertility is as well as some of the causes that may lead to its diagnosis. Now the question you\u2019re asking yourselves is\u2026\u00a0<strong>is there treatment for it?
