couples who have been diagnosed with<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/unexplained-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0unexplained infertility<\/a>, meaning\u00a0<strong>all\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/basic-fertility-study-what-tests-are-needed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diagnostic testing has come back normal<\/a><\/strong>; couples who have been trying to conceive for\u00a0<strong>only a short time<\/strong>\u00a0(less than two years); couples who do not have intercourse frequently; and women with ovulation abnormalities such as<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/can-i-get-pregnant-if-i-have-polycystic-ovarian-syndrome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">polycystic ovarian syndrome<\/a><\/strong>, etc.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_is_scheduled_sexual_intercourse_timed\"><\/span>How is scheduled sexual intercourse timed?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The purpose is to time intercourse around the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/how-can-you-calculate-your-fertile-days-to-become-a-mom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">female\u2019s most fertile days<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scheduled intercourse<\/strong>\u00a0can be planned based on\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/ovulation-why-its-important-to-know-when-it-takes-place-in-assisted-reproduction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">natural<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>ovulatory cycles. In this case,\u00a0<strong>ovulation is monitored<\/strong>\u00a0by tracking the female\u2019s basal temperature and by\u00a0<strong>performing ovulation<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>tests through urine samples<\/strong>\u00a0and\/or ultrasound scans. Then, the\u00a0<strong>doctor will determine<\/strong>\u00a0which days are ideal for the patients to have intercourse. Ultrasound scans should be performed to monitor follicle development in the ovaries before deciding the best moment to have intercourse. Intercourse before ovulation is the most effective.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled intercourse can also be planned in a natural\u00a0<strong>cycle during which ovulation<\/strong>\u00a0is triggered using a medication that contains the\u00a0<strong>hormone\u00a0hCG<\/strong>\u00a0(Ovitrelle, Gonasi).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another alternative<\/strong>\u00a0is to undergo\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/ovarian-stimulation-in-assisted-reproduction-we-answer-your-most-frequently-asked-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ovarian stimulation from the start of the cycle<\/a>\u00a0using either<\/strong>\u00a0oral or injectable medication. The couple should continue having intercourse every other day (i.e. every two days) for one week.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Advantages\"><\/span>Advantages<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This technique<strong>\u00a0is popular because it\u2019s simple<\/strong>, easy, requires little medication and is also affordable. There are no serious side effects or risks, and the likelihood of a twin or triplet pregnancy is very low.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disadvantages\"><\/span>Disadvantages<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The disadvantage is that\u00a0<strong>this technique is only recommended to specific couples<\/strong>\u00a0whose prognosis is very good.
