Do you have any other questions about platelet-rich plasma?<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_platelet-rich_plasma_and_why_is_it_used_in_assisted_reproduction\"><\/span>What is platelet-rich plasma, and why is it used in assisted reproduction?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Physiologically speaking, right after an egg is fertilised, the resulting embryo needs to implant in the\u00a0<strong>endometrium<\/strong>, or the\u00a0<strong>inner-most layer of the uterus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For this to take place, both the embryo and the uterus depend on the secretion and suppression of specific\u00a0<strong>proteins<\/strong>\u00a0that encourage\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/implantation-bleeding-how-can-you-tell\/\"><strong>embryo implantation<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In order for the uterus to be properly prepared, a combination of\u00a0<strong>important proteins<\/strong>\u00a0is necessary; this includes the production of a variety of\u00a0<strong>cytokines<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>growth factors<\/strong>\u00a0which help to stimulate growth of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/what-are-the-main-phases-of-the-menstrual-cycle\/\"><strong>endometrial lining<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The above-mentioned\u00a0<strong>growth factors<\/strong>\u00a0include ones that can contribute to protecting the\u00a0<strong>endometrium<\/strong>\u00a0against\u00a0<strong>fibrosis<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>serious scars<\/strong>, others that encourage\u00a0<strong>endometrial tissue repair<\/strong>, and finally those that are crucial to\u00a0<strong>initial embryo development and implantation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Platelet-rich plasma<\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong>PRP<\/strong>, is based on obtaining\u00a0<strong>proteins<\/strong>\u00a0from a sample of the patient\u2019s own blood.<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0<strong>blood sample processing<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>platelets<\/strong>\u00a0are activated and a large quantity of\u00a0<strong>active growth factors, proteins and cytokines<\/strong>\u00a0are obtained. These substances, which were present in the platelets, are released into the\u00a0<strong>endometrial cavity<\/strong>\u00a0where a number of\u00a0<strong>biological processes<\/strong>\u00a0are then triggered on a cellular level, including the\u00a0<strong>repair and regeneration of cells and tissue<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>decrease in inflammation<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0<strong>lowered risk of infection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the basis for the use of\u00a0<strong>PRP in assisted reproduction<\/strong>, as the effects mentioned above contribute to improving both the\u00a0<strong>thickness of the endometrial lining<\/strong>\u00a0as well as the way it functions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pub.mdpi-res.com\/medicina\/medicina-59-01532\/article_deploy\/html\/images\/medicina-59-01532-ag.png?1692879438\" alt=\"platelet-rich plasma\" width=\"501\" height=\"255\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_what_cases_is_platelet-rich_plasma_recommended\"><\/span>In what cases is platelet-rich plasma recommended?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many\u00a0<strong>scientific studies<\/strong>\u00a0are already indicating that\u00a0<strong>intrauterine PRP<\/strong>\u00a0is an\u00a0<strong>easily-accessible and affordable therapy<\/strong>\u00a0which could contribute to\u00a0<strong>fertility treatment<\/strong>\u00a0by helping prepare the\u00a0<strong>endometrium<\/strong>\u00a0for implantation, thus encouraging\u00a0<strong>communication between the embryo and the uterus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0<strong>URE Centro Gutenberg<\/strong>, we have been offering this therapy for quite some time. After first signing an\u00a0<strong>informed consent form<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>blood sample<\/strong>\u00a0is drawn from the patient. The sample is processed in order to separate the blood into its main components:\u00a0<strong>red blood cells, white blood cells and plasma containing platelets<\/strong>. The plasma, once prepared, will be activated using\u00a0<strong>PRGF\u00ae (Endoret\u00ae) technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The sample obtained is placed in the interior of the\u00a0<strong>uterus<\/strong>\u00a0a few days before the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/moments-in-assisted-reproduction-the-embryo-transfer\/\"><strong>embryo transfer<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0using an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urecentrogutenberg.es\/en\/artificial-insemination-frequently-asked-questions-about-this-assisted-reproduction-treatment\/\"><strong>artificial insemination catheter<\/strong><\/a>. This therapy can be carried out on\u00a0<strong>1, 2 or 3 separate occasions<\/strong>, with a margin of at least\u00a0<strong>48 hours<\/strong>\u00a0between each session.
