Infertility affects 15% of couples. 30% of cases are due to the male factor alone and another 30% of cases are due to a combination of both male and female factors. For this reason it is important to study the male’s sperm, starting with the sperm analysis, before deciding if other tests are needed to reach the best diagnosis.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”Why Us” _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”3vw||3vw||true|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row column_structure=”3_5,2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ width=”100%” max_width=”100%” custom_margin=”||||true” custom_margin_tablet=”||0px|” custom_margin_phone=”||||false|true” custom_margin_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_padding=”0px||0px||true|false” use_custom_width=”on” width_unit=”off” custom_width_percent=”100%” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”3_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ background_enable_color=”off” custom_padding=”0vw|1vw|4vw|12vw|false|false” custom_padding_tablet=”|4vw||4vw|false|false” custom_padding_phone=”” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|tablet” global_colors_info=”{}” padding_tablet=”0px|50px|50px|50px” padding_last_edited=”on|desktop” custom_padding__hover=”|||” padding_phone=”0px|50px|50px|50px”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Montserrat|300|||||||” text_line_height=”1.8em” header_font=”||||||||” header_2_font=”|300|||||||” header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.5em” max_width=”100%” max_width_tablet=”100%” max_width_last_edited=”off|phone” custom_margin=”|||” custom_margin_tablet=”0px|50px||50px” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”|||” header_2_font_size_tablet=”” header_2_font_size_phone=”30px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Sperm Analysis

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”Montserrat|300|||||||” text_line_height=”2em” link_font=”||||||||” ul_font=”||||||||” ol_font=”||||||||” quote_font=”||||||||” header_font=”||||||||” header_2_font=”Montserrat|300|||||||” header_2_text_color=”#212d3b” header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.5em” max_width=”100%” max_width_tablet=”100%” max_width_phone=”” max_width_last_edited=”on|tablet” custom_margin=”|||” custom_margin_tablet=”0px|50px||50px” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}”]

The sperm analysis is the first diagnostic test indicated for the study of male fertility to evaluate sperm production, motility, morphology, and the functioning of the prostate and seminal vesicles. The aim of this analysis is to determine whether the male plays a role in the couple’s infertility and to help the gynaecologist decide on the most appropriate assisted reproduction technique.

The sperm analysis examines macroscopic parameters such as volume, colour, appearance, pH, viscosity, elasticity and liquefaction time; and microscopic parameters such as the total number of sperm, sperm concentration, type of motility, morphology, presence of sperm clusters, and types and quantity of other non-sperm cells. According to the results of the analysis and the reference values of the World Health Organisation from 2010, we will diagnose the sperm sample. The gynaecologist will evaluate the results obtained from the sperm analysis as part of the couple’s case assessment.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ All sperm samples have some degree of fragmentation which, if higher than normal, can negatively affect a couple’s likelihood for success with assisted reproduction treatment. This is because elevated levels can impact fertilisation rates, lead to poor embryo quality and result in higher chances of recurrent miscarriage and lower success rates with assisted reproduction treatment.

Scientific studies show that different types of sperm DNA fragmentation are associated with different clinical conditions. While single strand DNA breaks are related to the condition of male infertility, double stand DNA breaks are associated with a higher risk of miscarriage owing to the spermatozoid. Our specialists will indicate, if necessary, the appropriate test for each patient.

To evaluate single strand sperm DNA fragmentation we use Halosperm®. This kit determines the DNA fragmentation index (DFI) by relying on sperm chromatin dispersion (SCD) as an indicator.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″
